Smoke & Honey Follows Album Release ‘Chase the Sun’ with Midwest Tour
Hailing from Denver, Colorado, Smoke & Honey’s fresh acoustic sound and rich harmonies have music fans perking up their ears. Led by singer-songwriter Sarah Brown and accompanied by guitarist Andrés Diaz, violinist Adrienne Short, bassist Mike Edwards and drummer Benjamin Brown, the indie-folk group draws you into their stories like friends sitting around a campfire. The group’s debut album ‘Chase the Sun’, released June 4, 2015 is a hauntingly beautiful compilation about accepting loss and finding hope.
Brown recorded eight original songs live at Mighty Fine Productions in Denver, CO accompanied by a talented crew of musicians; Andrés Diaz on guitar, Charlie Mertens on upright bass, Adrienne Short on violin, and Michael Edwards on percussion. The live set-up allowed for warmth and energy to permeate the tracks similar to the chemistry of the group’s live shows.
As Smoke & Honey’s songwriter, Brown tackles several themes in her music. The album’s first track, ‘Stargazing’ is about growing up in the Midwest. It draws a balance between loving where you came from and acknowledging the ways that it pushed you to become something more. Diaz and Brown's co-write, Sing to Me, describes, "our interconnectedness as people who have experienced pain and how music is a way of transcending pain," says Brown. ‘Nathan’s Song’ is a deeply personal piece about a sibling’s struggle with addiction. Brown explains,"it’s about not wanting to recognize what the person you love has become, especially in comparison to an idea of them that is happily contained within a glow of childhood."
Smoke & Honey released their compilation on June 4, 2015 at Denver Syntax Physic Opera and embarked on a Midwest Tour in June where they were joined by heartfelt singer-songwriter, Young Readers (full tour dates included to the left). They have enjoyed sharing their music at several local Denver venues and festivals and are preparing for their second release and tour in the Spring and Summer of 2016.
